OVERVIEW
LIKE AN AUDIO PODCAST - I am sure that you've listened to a podcast or an audio book, but what is it like recording yourself talking about topics of sociological interest? Just like the video blogs, your audio recording should be 60 seconds (or as close as possible). If you use Canvas studio to record your video blogs, you can also record your audio blog by clicking "No Webcam" and it will just record your voice. A link can then be generated that you can post. (See the "Video and Audio Recording" page on Canvas in the Online Course Essentials Module for more detailed instructions using Canvas studio).
In your audio post, please DO NOT DO any of the following:
(1) Introduce yourself - Students already introduce themselves in Discussion Post #1 which was a video
(2) State the prompt that you will be addressing - It should be implicitly evident in your audio post, just what prompt you are responding to.
(3) Read something that you have written - This is not the nature of the assignment otherwise it would have been a written assignment.
*Please review the grading rubric for specific point breakdown for this assignment.
NEXT . . . Post a REPLY of any length, but at least one complete sentence, to 3 of your fellow student's posts (minimum) writing a thoughtful reaction/response to their ideas, making sure that you have written at least 1 sentence per reply.
-->>> Example of how to reply to another student:
Hey Julia:
I agree that there is a significant issue around certain biological issues that human's face, that causes us to shrink back and be silent when there is an opportunity to discuss them openly.
(3) Read through other students' posts, then cut and paste 2 of the most noteworthy statements written by two other students (not the same students that you replied to), and properly credit them.
One sentence for each student:
-->>> Example of how to properly quote someone:
"I can be who I want, I don’t have to get married, or have kids."--Maria Delgado
"It's hard to differentiate what we have been taught [from]... the truth."--Jonathan Kim
- An alternative to the Canvas studio recording feature is soundcloud which can also generate a link of an audio recording.
- You will be provided with a prompt to address.
- This is not a "read from the page" assignment, it is, instead, an opportunity to speak on the subject matter presented, after taking time to think about and perhaps even have a brief outline of no more than 2-3 major points (60 seconds goes by quickly!).
