SOC-SPEAK
The study of sociology will help you "see" social phenomena in new ways and you will want to share what you learn and seek out new and interesting content. You will experience what is widely known as the sociological imagination. While the details of this assignment will be explained in person, here are some points that you can refer to when preparing your presentation. This is an in-class assignment, presentations cannot be made up!
TOPICS
For each SOC-LENS presentation, you will choose a topic from the Study Guide that corresponds to the Exam you are preparing for. For example, SOC-SPEAK 1 topics can be drawn from anything listed on the Study Guide for Exam 1.
VISUAL AIDS (REQUIRED)
You will be utilizing prezi as your presentation tool. This is a user-friendly, web-based presentation tool that you will find will bring your presentation to new levels of excellence. It is recommended that your presentation be no MORE than 5 slides due to the tight time constraints (see time limit).
This is an example of a Prezi I created and used for a 90-minute workshop on Time Management. What you don't want is people reading a large amounts of text while you are talking!
TIME LIMIT
This presentation will last 1.5 minutes. There will be a timekeeper and once it is indicated that your time has ended, you MUST immediately wrap up and end the presentation professionally. It is HIGHLY recommended that you rehearse your presentation several times and make adjustments for the time allotted. Index cards are highly encouraged! Your visual should NOT BE TEXT HEAVY - the bulk of information should be shared verbally.
